Rediscovering the Dignity and Purpose of Work
This sermon opens a series called "The Other Six Days," challenging the common tendency to compartmentalize faith into Sunday while neglecting God's design for the rest of the week. The pastor contrasts two foundational worldviews -- the Greek philosophical view, which sees work as a burden to escape and assigns hierarchy to different types of labor, and the biblical view, which presents work as a sacred calling rooted in the character of God himself. Drawing from Genesis 1 and 2, the sermon establishes that God himself worked as a craftsman in creation, and that humanity, made in his image, is called to continue that creative and ordering work in the world. Work -- whether physical, intellectual, entrepreneurial, or domestic -- is presented not as a necessary evil but as a holy partnership with God in bringing shalom to the world.
