The "others" in Hebrews 11, nameless and forgotten by the world, are held up as equally commended examples of faith because they endured without receiving the promised outcome in this life. Their endurance was fueled by a hope anchored in resurrection -- a reality beyond this world. The sermon calls believers to stop measuring faith by results, to fix their eyes on Jesus as the pioneer and perfecter of faith, and to run with perseverance the race uniquely marked out for each of them, knowing that sometimes faith gets you out of a trial, but sometimes it gets you through it.
