I Am The Light of The World - What Did Jesus Actually Mean?
This sermon explores Jesus' declaration "I am the light of the world" within the context of the Feast of Tabernacles and the creation narrative. The pastor draws parallels between Genesis 1, where God brings light into darkness and order out of chaos, and John's Gospel, which presents Jesus as the Word who brings life and light to humanity. The message challenges the congregation to recognize that many cultural "lights" they follow—self, success, pleasure, control, religion, and knowledge—are actually counterfeit lights leading to darkness. Jesus offers not just intellectual belief but an active invitation to "follow" Him out of darkness. The sermon emphasizes that belief must be accompanied by action and obedience, and that we cannot simply believe our way out of messes we've behaved ourselves into. The distinction is made between acknowledging Jesus as "the light of the world" (an abstract truth) versus making Him "the light of your world" (a personal reality that transforms behavior).
